How to learn skating or anything?????

I see many beginners rent a pair of inline skates and try to learn skating on his own. Falling many times and getting up only to fall again.

Human has a knack to learn almost anything by trial and error. After several attempts you finally learn to balance with your legs wide open. Watching other skaters and imitating their movements, and occasionally getting some tips, it will take you several months and many falls later before you could skate along East Coast Park yet occasionally falling. The biggest problem is learning to stop properly. You will finally manage after falling on grass patches or bang into wall. Yet each time when you want to go and skate, you are apprehensive whether you should go. Will you come back with more bones or less blood? After a couple of years and many tips from other better skaters, you will skate better.

Isn't this similar to discovering how to skate yourself?

How to skate has been known. Why duplicate the discovery. It is like try to discover what should be the shape of wheels? Square? Triangle? Octagonal?......or Round?

You can do that with table tennis, football and other games but you would not do that with swimming? Neither would you do that with driving because any accident means very costly damage, in terms of money or bodily injuries, lost of limbs or even lives. (Skating is the same… However, there is a safe way to learn to skate safely and leisurely without falling. This method is discovered by Edward Lim of isk8ed skating school in Singapore, where you can learn to skate in 6 hours, safely in 12, and leisurely in 18 hours. This is attainable by most students. . .

What is the fastest way to learn?

The fastest way is to learn from a good teacher who will break it down into bite sizes so that you can chew on it without choking yourself.

Group or individual progress

In large group lessons your progress will be slowed down by others if you are a fast learner. However if you are slow, you will endanger yourself if you try to catch up. In large group, you are required to queue for your turn. Therefore, small group is the best where each student can progress at their own pace.

When should I stop learning?

When we learn half way and stop, that is when you begin to discover some wrong habits and endanger yourself. You are also limited by the amount of knowledge you have.

You should continue with your lessons till you are proficient where you can do it without fear or apprehension. Just like the child who has only primary standard, it is difficult for him to surpass a person with college or tertiary education. There is always the exception but would you like to bet on this.

So it is still best to learn to skate until you are proficient and can skate as you would jogging. So it is best not to start skating if you intent to learn only a few lessons and continue by taking chances.

Will I lose my interest?

Learning with interest can happen only if you set a goal at the beginning. You will feel a sense of achievement and not lose interest if can see & feel that you are making progress. Learning new technique and mastering it as you progress will keep the fire going.
